Foss Fine Meats, located in Sparta, issued a voluntary Class I recall of ham products packaged and sold from its retail store on Tuesday. According to Public Information Officer Kevin Hoffman in the release, “affected products may include Wisconsin mark of inspection with establishment No. 58 and also may include a ‘packed on’ date of 1 to 153 or 330 to 356.”

The recall includes smoked and cured whole hams, ham steaks, ham roasts and ham hocks.

The Class I recall was initiated based on evidence from a routine inspection by state inspectors that showed the products did not comply with the Federal Meat Inspection Act as required by law. There have been no illnesses reported from consuming these products.

The United States Department of Agriculture’s classification of a Class 1 recall is a “health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”

Anyone with signs of food-borne illness should contact their doctor. Anyone who purchased these products can return them to the place of purchase. Anyone with questions regarding the recall can contact Mark Wells from Foss Fine Meats at 608-269-6456.
